I cant wait to see more of this built! There is something so cool about a new modern jeep pulling a old military work horse. Its proof jeeps never lost their military heritage even if it has 4 doors, gps, and heated seats. M -b1 It's been a few months and very little progress.

Here's my update. Sorry about the crappy pictures. I finished the tongue extension. I ended up going with the "A" frame design as the hitch receiver tub weighs a lot and I didn't want to put extra unnecessary weigh on the front. This design is much stronger than what was on there before. JPG This is the back end of the tongue, where it attaches to the trailer.
I used 3x3 inch tube to make the tongue wider allowing me to gain extra length and more stability for the box I added to the tongue. Last edited by Rubicon; at AM. Last week I found a trailer with a box in much better condition. I purchased it, swapped the boxes and sold the new frame with my old box. Here's a picture of the new box. This will help when out on the trails as noticed this area seemed to flex fairly easy. I was also concerned about the added weight from the new tongue bending the 60 year old angle iron.
Welded the seems then grinded them down to give a cleaner look. Please keep in mind I'm still learning to weld, I am not a professional. Looks like a fun project. Jeep parts and accessories purchased through the following link will help support this forum and at no cost to you. This project sat for several months as family emergencies came up but I'm back on it. Below are pictures of the new rear bumper. Frame is mostly all done. Just a few more details then to work on the body. Attachment Here is a picture of the trailer after getting sandblasted.View unanswered posts View active topics.

I'm not sure where a thread like this should go, so I'm putting it here. If you look closely, you'll see part of a KJ in the pics Started work on my M This is what I started with: I parked it in the garage and disassembled it: After several hours with an angle grinder, I had the frame pretty well cleaned up.
I then gave it two coats of POR and a top coat of rattle can semi-flat black:. I gave the wheels a few coats of olive drab green: After a few more hours with the angle grinder I had the bottom of the tub ready to go. I painted the underside of the tub with 2 coats of POR I'm not going to top coat it since the POR on the underside isn't going to see any sunlight: More pics coming soon A few more update pictures: I rewired the trailer.
The old wiring was pretty loose and the wires were just twisted together and electrical taped. I soldered the wires and made everything nice and tight.
I used zip ties to hold the wiring nice and snug to the frame. I also re-installed the lights and military data tag on the frame: Next up was several house on the angle grinder again with the wire brush attachment. I knocked off all the loose paint and rust. I then gave the bottom of the bed, fenders, and anything else that was rusty a coat of POR Next up was primer. It could have used a little more primer, but I ran out, so that will have to do. I also painted the hard to reach places with rattle can olive drab.
I figured those would be the spots that would be hard to get with the air compressor powered spray gun. I had to re-install the bed on the frame because I'm transporting the trailer to my parent's house this week where I'll paint it.
I had some issues getting the trailer to fit on the frame and for the holes to line up, but I guess that's understandable since I dropped the bed once when I was moving it and and flipped it over twice to work on it.
I'd imagine things shifted a little. With a little muscle, I was able to get it back on and bolted down with new grade 8 hardware. Pulleys are great! Hope to have some pictures of the final paint job before the end of the week Looks good. I am still working on mine, frame is almost done, need to rewire it, then sandblask the tub and fenders and patch a hole in the floor of the tub. Had a few other project that needed to get done first like a new workshop, fence and deck that needed to be built.
Keep us updated. Looks great! Definitely keep us updated That looks great, on the first pictures it seemed like it needed a lot of work but you made it seem too easy.Posted: Sat Apr 23, pm. I've been looking online for the last couple of years trying to find a great deal on a M trailer. I started drawing up plans to build one from the ground up.Ipc manual aircraft
It is now disassembled and ready for sand blasting next week. More to come Posted: Sat May 07, am. Picked up the tub after being sandblasted today. No rust through at all, came out perfect. Now I have some dents to smooth out. Then I am adding a square rail over the round tubing at the rim. The square rail will make for a better place for a lid to sit on.
After that it will spray a coat of primer so it doesn't start rusting. At that point I can move on to beefing up the frame. Posted: Sat May 07, pm. I can beat any deal you'll find on Trailready's.
Don't buy Chinese wheels. Posted: Sun May 08, am. Posted: Sat May 28, am. As an update: - Picked up pound Dexter axle pound hubs with electric brakes. It is 4 inches wider than the stock m axle. I sanded it, sprayed it down with etching primer and hit it with rattle can black. Still need to weld the spring mounts on though.
I am cutting one side off then fitting it over the round tube at the top of the trailer rim. This will make a better surface for the lid I will build to come in contact with. I also used some of the 2x3 tube to make a new rear cross member and pushed a hitch receiver through it still need to weld it up just in case I want to take the bikes, or hang those hitch mounted chairs from it, and to utilize it as a winch point if needed.
I am cutting up gussets as well and will be using them all over Posted: Sun Jul 10, pm. I made some more headway. I have the new rim all welded on. Built the skeleton for the lid. I was going to use the receiver as a place to put a shackle, or bike carriers, etc Slow goingIncrease the search radius for more results. Thinking of purchasing this '52 military pintel trailer. I would like to use it for some extended camping trips, nothing too wild off road but I don't know much at all about these trailers. What do you think a fair price would be? I looked up some prices on the internet and they seem all over the place. Guy says it has drum brakes and shocks.
Screen Shot at As for fixing it up, I have no idea what that would cost. Hard to tell just on those pics but it looks to be in pretty decent shape. A lot depends on how rusted out the frame is also. Originally Posted by jjlong.

Color matching your jeep would look pretty bad ass i think. I like the body color idea, but thats me. Either one would look good.
